Flood Relief Grants & Advice |
GRANTS AVAILABLE NOW FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN CUMBRIA AFFECTED BY FLOODING
Below is an overview of the eligibility for grants through the Cumbria Flood Recovery Grant provided by the Cumbria Community Foundation. Voluntary Groups and Organisations can apply by visiting their website.

Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund for Individuals and Families
Grants may be made for charitable purposes to relieve hardship in Cumbria caused directly or indirectly by the storms and flooding in November 2009. The fund has been funded by donations from individuals, local businesses and government bodies.
Who can apply?
- Individuals or families whose homes have significant structural damage or flooding
- employees who have lost work or income because of storm or flood
Support can be provided with the following:
- clean up
- emergency repairs
- clothing
- food and drink
- heating and heating equipment
- child care equipment
- basic furniture
- this is not an exhaustive list
Priority is given to households with:
- people over 70
- children under 5
- people with physical or learning disabilities or mental health needs (eg in receipt of Disability Living Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Attendance Allowance)
- low incomes
Will not normally fund:
- people who are fully insured
- those eligible for Social Fund community care grants (people on state benefits)
- vehicles
- businesses (Cumbria Chamber of Commerce has guidance for businesses)
Maximum grant will be £500 (£1,000 in exceptional circumstances)
A couple or family who receive Income Support, Income Based Jobseeker's Allowance or Pension Credit will be likely to be eligible for a Social Fund Community Care Grant available through Job Centre Plus. This may also apply if someone in the household also receives Attendance Allowance or Disability Living Allowance.
Groups

Who can apply?
- Voluntary and community groups who:
- are providing immediate relief to people who have been affected by the storms and floods
- will be providing longer term community rebuilding projects
- have experienced significant structural and or flood damage
Support can be provided with the following:
- relief services
- shelter
- food
- clothing
- clean up
- additional support services (information and advice, counselling or care services e.g. day care or respite)
- longer term projects of community rebuilding
Priority is given to voluntary and community groups providing support to one or more of the following groups of people:
- older adults
- families with young children
- people with physical or disabilities or with mental health needs
- people on low incomes
and to projects
- showing evidence of collaboration with other service providers
- maximising the use of volunteers
Will not normally fund:
- voluntary and community groups who are fully insured
- businesses
- any non charitable activity eg political
- fundraising events
- substitution for statutory funding
Maximum grants will normally be £5,000 (£10,000 in exceptional circumstances).
